The Upcoming 405 Closure: Prime Time Shuttle is Prepared
"CARmageddon" is coming! The 405 will be completely shut down in both directions between the 101 and 10 freeways – an insanely busy 10-mile stretch – beginning the night of Friday, July 15 and ending 5 a.m. the following Monday morning.
Instead of running for cover from this potential "mother of all traffic jams", Prime Time Shuttle is running headlong, straight into it. It’s offering half-off fares during the CARmageddon weekend for those most affected by the closure.
If you live in the San Fernando Valley, on July 16 & 17, Prime Time will take you to or from Los Angeles International Airport — between your terminal and your door — for just $20.
"$20 is about half our normal fare, and anybody riding with you rides for just $10," says John Kindt, Prime Time Shuttle's GM. "We do rideshare, which means we're in the business of taking cars off the road. And, taking cars off the road is the answer to CARmageddon."
Every Prime Time Shuttle van represents at least 3 cars off the road. Last year, Prime Time encouraged Angelinos to leave about one million of their cars safely in their garages, and to instead share rides with their neighbors to Southern California's airports.
Prime Time Shuttle drivers put about 20 million miles per year combined on their shuttle vans, so they're going to know those secret routes. They also all have access to real time traffic and, more importantly, each other, so to gang up on the traffic to know exactly how to circumvent it.
"What we're saying is this," continues Kindt, "Do the right thing and keep off the road, if you can. But if you need to get to LAX, ride with us. We know how to get you there."
The $20 special fare to/from LAX is offered on July 16 & 17 from any address within the municipalities of Arleta, Bell Canyon, Burbank, Cahuenga Pass, Calabasas, Calabasas Highlands, Canoga Park, Chatsworth, Colfax Meadows, Encino, Glendale, Granada Hills, Hidden Hills, Kagel Canyon, Lake View Terrace, Lake Balboa, Mission Hills, NoHo Arts District, North Hills, North Hollywood, Northridge, Olive View, Pacoima, Panorama City, Porter Ranch, Reseda, San Fernando, Shadow Hills, Sherman Oaks, Studio City, Stonehurst, Sun Valley, Sunland-Tujunga, Sylmar, Tarzana, Toluca Lake, Toluca Woods, Universal City Valley Glen, Valley Village, Van Nuys, Ventura Business District, Warner Center, West Chatsworth, West Hills, West Toluca, Winnetka, and Woodland Hills.
